When do you start work on my project?
Prior to work commencing, you will receive a Project Confirmation Agreement. I begin work on your project, as stated on the PCA, once the Agreement is signed and returned along with the requested up-front deposit.

Can you re-create an existing logo in a proper format for printing?
Sure. I can re-create your logo in any format you require and supply you with a style guide.

What is a style guide?
A style guide is a document that specifies the way your logo should be used. This can include Pantone colours, colour use options, size restraints, positioning and typefaces used.

What if I have my own ideas for a design?
Excellent! I'm happy to help you realise your own vision.

How do I receive my final files?
That depends on what you're having done.
Print work will generally be supplied in EPS and PDF formats.
Logo designs will be supplied in print-ready EPS, PDF, TIFF and digital JPG or PNG formats.
Web designs will be supplied in the form of the final files used for the actual, published site.
Files are sent to you electronically and/or posted on CD.

What if I don't have a printing company to complete my project?
Not a problem. I have a few different printers at hand. I can either put you in contact with them or I can carry out your project from start to finish by handling the printing.

What can I do if I've lost my files/artwork?
I keep archives and should have your files at hand but I make no guarantee that I will. I can put your lost files on a CD and post it directly to you. There is a fee of €80 to replace lost artwork so I recommend that you make a back-up for yourself and store it in a safe place.

Who owns the rights to the completed artwork?
Unless you are licensing my work, and once the final artwork is paid in full, you do. I retain the rights of all artwork until full payment is made.

Do you accept commisions on speculation (provide designs free of charge without a guarantee of compensation)?
Ring multiple Take-Aways and order a meal from each of them. Explain to them that you're ordering from a few other places and you'll only pay for the one meal you liked most. Be sure to tell them all that if you like their food you will order from them again and again in the future.

That is spec work.

How would you respond if you were operating one of those Take-Aways?

The decision to hire a professional designer should be based on his/her experience, artistic style and portfolio. It is only fair that the designer be paid for their work.

Graphic design is a specialised service that requires time, research, client communication and enthusiasm to create a successful product. When working on spec, with no guarantee of compensation, a designer cannot devote the proper time, resources and research required to execute a design effectively. This, more often than not, results in a lacklustre product that misses it's commercial mark.

Spec work is an unprofessional, unethical practice that harms clients and designers alike. It not only undermines and devalues the graphic design industry but it also affects the commercial viability of the client's brand. It doesn't do wonders for the client/designer relationship either.

So, the short answer to that one is "NO".
